Youth baseball bat reviews continued...Big barrel bats vs. small barrel bats

Baseball Express

Youth baseball bat reviews continued...

Even though I am old school when it comes to the idea that the small barrel bats help to develop hand eye coordination better than the big barrel bats, I can not deny the confidence impact that hitting with a big barrel bat gives a player.

Playing golf helped me realize this to an even greater level. If the small barrel bat was more advantageous than a big barrel bat for my kids then why was I using a "BIG BERTHA" driver instead of my dad's old driver?

It's simple for me... I enjoy hitting the golf ball farther by using a more forgiving club. It really is no different for a baseball player when choosing a big barrel bat.

Safety is certainly a concern when using a big barrel bat. I think if the powers to be want to make baseball safer they could institute a stricter weight policy for all bats. Or they could require bats to have thicker walls thus decreasing the exit speed of the ball off the bat.

I have seen some serious injuries when players use big barrel bats and if parks decide to go with a small barrel bat for the sake of safety I applaud and support their decisions. If on the other hand your league has decided that using big barrel bats provides a safe environment to play then I can support that as well.

Remember before you spend money for a new bat be sure to check with your league on the weight and barrel requirements.
