Baseball hitting instructions made easy...Hips

Continued from baseball hitting instructions...

Turning the hips is a rotational force of the baseball swing. The reason for that force is to transfer the weight forward into the swing. Rotating and transferring are not independent rather dependent actions.

Coaches may have a player that is at one end of the spectrum so you have to communicate differently than if you were working with a player that is at the other end of the spectrum.

For instance a player is turning his hip to the point that he is spinning out or pulling off the ball. In this case coach him up by telling him to use the turn to transfer the weight forward. It is a very similar action to throwing a baseball the hips will turn to transfer the weight from the back side into the front side.

You can tell if a player is rotating and not transferring if at contact the back heel is on or close to the ground. However, a player that has his back heel high off the ground is transferring as he rotates the back side.
