Catching Drills, Tips and Instruction

The first of many catching drills we will go over at BTI is the Dry-Blocking Drill.

Dry Blocking Drill

Start with your catcher in his "action stance" or "secondary stance". Basically all you want is for your catcher to have his feet slightly wider than his shoulders, his butt and knees at 90 degree angle.

Place 3 balls in front of home plate. One inside, one outside and one down the middle.

The coach points to a ball.

The catcher shifts over to block the ball.

Then he gets up QUICKLY

Resets for the next ball.

I usually have my catchers go in sets of 9 blocks and then I give them a rest.

This is a great drill to use as a conditioning as well as a skills acquisition drill for catchers.
