Your Guide to Choosing a Baseball Conditioning Program
It is that time of year when my clients inquire about a baseball conditioning program for the off season. September through January is the ideal time to make baseball specific training "gains". Generally during these months the games have tapered off and players can begin to rest and recover from the previous season while systematically preparing for the upcoming season. For some players the "off-season" is the time to improve arm strength by implementing a throwing program. Other players use the down time to increase speed and agility. While another group of players may want to get bigger and stronger to have the stamina to make it through the grueling summer months of playing competitive baseball. How to choose a workout program is very specific to the individuals fitness/baseball goals. Once the player has determined the objectives to his workout program then a plan can be prescribed. Over the next several weeks we will delve into the different components of an off season workout for baseball players. We will start with a throwing program which includes stretching, running and long toss. Be thinking of specific goals that you might have in order to best utilize the tips I give you in the upcoming releases.
